Welcome to Garver House Bed and Breakfast

Nestled in the quaint village of Strasburg in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, our B&B, a foursquare colonial built in 1902, retains the charm of a bygone era with the modern amenities that today’s travelers expect.

The Garvers, a prominent family in Strasburg, Ohio, were the owners of Garver Brothers World’s Largest Country Store.  Construction of the house lasted two years, back in the early 1900s, and when you enter the front door you can see why.  The original hardwood floors are still intact.  All the floors on the first floor have a unique border design that is different in each room.  This house shows attention to detail that is not found in homes today.

Five original stained glass windows are located in the dining room, family room, one upstairs bedroom, a back stairway, and the grand stairway.  The stained glass work in the grand stairway is awesome; at seven-by-five foot, it looks beautiful from outside of the house when lit at nighttime.  Leaded glass windows surround the original oak front door and are found in the bathroom of the Strasburg Suite.  The home also features four fireplaces including one in the kitchen and one in the Zoar Village Room.  Pocket doors separate the living room and dining room if needed and another set of pocket doors close off the foyer from the family room.  Located in the side yard is a small stone and cement pool that is currently stocked with goldfish and is original to the home.  A patio adjacent to the pool provides a relaxing place to sit, sip ice tea, gaze at the goldfish, and enjoy the fountain.

The Garver House Bed and Breakfast truly reflects the fine craftsmanship of the early 1900s.  Come and visit the innkeepers Al and Natalie. They are happy to share the history of the house and the Garver family.

“Come rest your head upon our bed.”  Garver House Bed and Breakfast is your destination to relax,  rejuvenate, and be pampered.  Strasburg is also proud to feature a variety of attractions for your enjoyment during your stay.

Strasburg is considered to be “The Gateway to Amish Country’” and is just a short drive from numerous Amish attractions.  Our staff will be happy to provide you with free maps and details to the Amish area.  Tuscarawas, Holmes, and Wayne County boast the largest Amish population in Ohio and the United States.  Come stay with us, and enjoy the beautiful rolling hills and valleys this area provides. Amish country is not only beautiful, it is rich in craftsmanship.  Food, furniture, woodwork, quilts, and crafts are just a few things for which the Amish are well known.   The Tuscarawas Valley area is rich in wineries, cheese houses, and mouthwatering bakeries. The Amish are hardworking and industrious.  They also have a strong faith, and therefore their businesses are closed on Sundays.

Since the Amish community is quiet on Sundays, let our staff help you with a fun-filled itinerary.  Tuscarawas County has much to offer visitors seven days a week.  Numerous golf courses dot the countryside;  museums and historical sites are all open; and outdoor adventures such as hiking trails, nature centers, and canoeing are also available.

Phillip Garver always said the key to his success was “friendliness,” a tradition that continues to live on at Garver House Bed and Breakfast.

“Thank you for a beautiful home, delicious breakfasts, comfortable rooms, and wonderful hospitality. We (3 couples) enjoyed playing games in your dining room until the late hours and for allowing us to continue to do so the next day. We all agreed in the past 10 years of meeting in different B&B’s across Ohio, this was by far the best. Thank you!” ~ 21 January 2012. Reverends Ralph and Liz, LaGrange, Ohio
